Relay History Documentary

This project will serve as telling the entire story of what got us to where we are today. This will run  between 1-2 hours and stick primarily to telling stories about the history of our community.

  1. Content- We will determine a timeline of the history based on Neil's legwork and determine candidates for interviewing. Some footage will be taped at the same interviews for the shorter versions but there may be others that we interview just for this version.
  2. People to participate- Each "bullet point" we come up with for content will require a person or people to interview. There can be situations where someone can cover more than one topic and some topics that we hear from more than one person. Most interviews will happen at Relay but if I feel there is too much repetitiveness with the background I may ask to come to peoples homes instead.
  3. Music- Music will have it's own section I am sure but we will also use music throughout the video for transitions and occasionally as a bed underneath people speaking.
  4. Delivery Method- DVDs and Blu-rays for sure.

Relay Documentary

After giving this a lot of thought this is the size I have in mind for telling our story. I know we discussed a full length 1 -2 hour long feature and I will list that as a separate project. I am looking to make this between 40-60 minutes and tell the entire story, not just the history. History will be a big part of it of course but it will one of the elements along with ministries, music, mission statement, peoples stories (how they found Relay, why the chose to stay, what it means to them, etc). I don't see this as being a linear story either. I really won't know the best order to tell the story until we have all of the interviews in "in the can" as they say. But one story may lead to another. This will be aimed at anyone that wants to learn how our community became what it is today.

Here is what we need to tell this story.

  1. Content- For this version I plan to cover history, our mission, music, ministry overview and member stories. I would also like to hear from some of our regular priests for their stories.
  4. Delivery Method- This version will be too big for digital delivery so  DVDs/Blu-rays  will be the only way to show it.

Relay Welcome Video

Our goal for this video is to have something for a current or potential member to take home to view and learn what Relay has to offer. The running time would be 8-12 minutes. The video will be interview driven with some voice over if necessary. This video will have some overlap with the full length version.  Here is what we need to get this one started.

  1.  Content- What topics do we want to cover? There will be some general history, our mission and ways our community interacts with each other and the world around us.
  4. Delivery Method- We can create DVDs to hand out but in our digital day and age we should also consider a digital method for delivery or viewing. I could put a version on Dropbox and then all we would have to do is email them a link and they are watching right there or they have the option to download it. This way we can cut back on the number of DVDs we have to print but we still have some for those that need them.

Relay Web Video

Our goal for the web video is to give a brief synopsis of our community. The running time should be somewhere between 60-120 seconds. The video will be voice over driven and strictly be to provide enough information to get newcomers in the door. Here is what we need to get this going.

  1. Content- We need to determine what we will talk about. Once we have some bullet points I will draft up a rough script for the voice over. Visuals will be stills or motion graphics that I will create.
  2. Person to say Voice Over- Who will I record saying the voice over? My first thought would be Maria Gamble. She has a nice energy when she speaks and I feel she is someone who can receive direction well. Let me know if you can think of anyone else.
  3. Music- I still have not reached to Al about any of this but I think an acoustic guitar with maybe a little keyboard would be a nice music bed to have under the voice. The other option would be for me to pick stock music from my library.
